Bonsmara Breed
The Bonsmara breed is a scientifically and methodically bred type of cattle. What separates the Bonsmara cow from the typical breed is the fact that the Bonsmara cow was engineered for superior climate adaptability by a certain Professor Bonsma, from a South African University. The Name “Bonsmara” is an amalgamation of Bonsma’s last name and Mara Station, the place where these cows were bred.
Originally bred for practical use in a harsh subtropical climate, the Bonsmara has since improved to allow usage in a wide variety of harsh climates. The Bonsmara breed embodies favorable traits from two distinct types of cattle – the resilience and low maintenance of South American cattle, and the quality and production speed of European cattle. As such, the selection and breeding for the Bonsmara was, and still is quite extensive and thorough. The Bonsmara has been genetically engineered for growth and efficiency.
Other excellent qualities of the Bonsmara include small calves for easy calving, a calm temperament for easy handling, and last but not least, it’s excellent beef quality – something purported by many sources to be extremely tender and low in excess fats. All of these traits, combined with the other traits mentioned above, make the Bonsmara an excellent breed. Contact us today for any questions or needs you have regarding the Bonsmara!
